The Fine Crafts Art Class will provide students with the opportunity to explore new mediums that are not often taught in schools anymore. This class will get to the root of processes and techniques used for functional and decorative pieces such as stained glass, metal-smithing, basket weaving, dying fibers, sewing, jewelry making, and functional and decorative ceramics.
*****This class handles materials that can be dangerous if not used in the proper way with the proper safety measures taken. Mrs. Gates will provide explicit information on how to properly handle these materials, but accidents sometimes do happen, sometimes even when you are utilizing all the correct safety protocols. Students will be using power tools, saws, soldering irons that reach 700+ degrees, handling shards of glass, working with metal, building with clay which does have silica powder, etc. It is up to each student, under the supervision of the teacher and their peers, to follow the safety and handling protocols and work with integrity, which includes properly cleaning their space and returning materials to their correct storage area so that other classes after them also do not get injured.*****
