Each year we participate in various Art Shows within our county. The first show we are going to participate in this year is the Word & Image Show. This show requires both a Creative Writing piece and a Visual Art piece. The theme this year is "If..." You have to imagine your own world with the creative writing piece prompted by IF... Such as: If people were not the dominate species..., If the main form of transportation was levitation..., If elephants were the domesticated house pet instead of dogs...etc. You will think of a concept and create both a visual representation and a written representation of that concept. The visual piece will consist of a photo collage pieced together to represent your written piece. The writing must be no short than a paragraph and longer than one page. It could be written like a story or in the form of a poem. The photo collage will consist of mostly your photos but you can also use images from MorgueFile.com or CreativeCommons.org. The photos used in your collage must be at least 50% of your own images. It is a copyright issue to use too many of someone else's photos. You will be altering the photos you use. You cannot turn in one shot for this project. You will be required to turn in a PSD file for this project as well as a word document with your writing portion. Please see some examples below of possible photo collages.

Balance in Photography refers to the distribution of visual weight within the composition. Having a balanced composition means the visual weight of positive space and negative is close to equal on both sides. For our balance project, we are going to create 3 perfectly symmetrical mirrored images using any subject matter of your choice. We learned how to do this in the Pattern project. It's within the first couple steps where you double the composition. Look at the examples below which were done by a former student, Jackson Sullivan: |
