Throughout the year we have done several projects dealing with a narrative. For our final exam we will be doing something similar but in first-person perspective. There was a movie shot in this style called Hardcore Henry. Also a lot of video games are in first-person perspective.

For your next assignment, I want you to create a narrative through a photo storyboard about a topic of your choice with a minimum of 6 photos. This assignment is similar to the comic strip, except you will not be including any words to aide the narrative. It could be as simple as your morning routine, a day at school, or something more complicated like a murder mystery or the entire life of a relationship. Think of your photos as clues to the viewer. What information do they need to know? See some of the examples below for inspiration (click on them to enlarge them for a better view):
You will be creating a comic strip using your own plot and photos to show the progression of one 2-page spread worth of a comic strip/book. It could be a whole story (beginning, middle, end) or a one-scene type of narrative like an action shot or one event being played out through the images.
Project Expectations: Objection - Utilize any Photoshop techniques you currently have (such as the photo layout) to design a comic strip and identify the key elements to a comic strip while taking your own photos and editing them into a fully develop comic strip page. Consider cutting your photos for an interesting layout, adding frames using the Stroke aspect of the Rectangular Marquee Tool and possibly even word bubbles and text boxes. Procedure and Requirements - Research and Create a Storyline or Plot (2-3 days):
Using a photo of yourself (be sure to think about your clothing and pose and expression) combine a series of images you either take yourself of things that are important to you or find for reuse from Google, Pixabay or Morguefile, you will create a Self Portrait Digital Collage that tells the viewer at least four things about you. The information you include could reference your hobbies, something about your ancestry, sports you do, feelings, issues or current events you're passionate about, important people in your lives, favorite movies, etc. Find creative ways to blend, use filters, cut and paste items together in a stacked self portrait. Your images should have a minimal background to not distract from everything else you are adding to it. See below for examples:
For the next several weeks you will be taking photos of items that appear to look like letters of the alphabet collecting at least one good representation of each letter. You will use your time in class to either look for letters around school or edit the images you took to make them appear to be the same size and layout in the composition as all the other letters.
Here are the objectives/rules for this project:
Due Date Timeline:
See examples HERE Students will create a new surreal image using vintage photo(s) and make it look like a real scene where the collaged images seamlessly fit together. Consider adding color (see previous post about restoring vintage photos for a tutorial) and add shadows if need be using the burn tool in Photoshop. Students can use PNGtree.com, Pixabay.com, Morguefile.com for free images to utilize in your composition or go to Images.google.com and select "Tools" then "Usage Rights" and "Creative Commons" to see free images to be used. Students must change several items from the original photo including the overall sense of the scene, adding in some new elements, and making it surreal. See examples below: Using your editing skills in photoshop, bring a vintage photo back to life. I want you to utilize any skillsets you have in photoshop to restore a faded or damaged vintage photograph. You could bring one in from home or choose one of the photographs Mrs. Gates has in class, take a shot of it and load it into photoshop to edit. Return the photo to Mrs. Gates. The photo has to be damaged or faded in order to work because this project is all about photo restoration. Click HERE if you want to add color. Below are some files you could use if you do not have your own.
Here are some examples. You will eventually submit both the original and the restored photo side by side in one document.
